Wordpress 2.7 is out. The most notable change out of the box being the new dashboard, the new version of Wordpress allows automatic upgrades to newer versions. This is a big relief to the Wordpress users since everytime a new version was released earlier the only way to upgrade was to download the new distribution and upload via ftp to the server. This becomes easy now. We had done a small review of Wordpress 2.7 beta earlier and things remain pretty much the same except some new bug fixes and some major theming of the dashboard especially the new dashboard icons. An in-depth changelog is available at the codex. Sadly, a new feature – notification of theme updates (like plug-in updates) – couldn’t make it to the final release.
I’d be very eager to try this out however it’s only wise to stay on the current version till those plug-ins get updated and any flaws are reported to be smoothed out. I’d though will be willing to try it out on one of my newer blogs which gets low traffic. Nonetheless chances are, once you try it out it will be hard not to use it on your in-production blog. What do you like about this version?

My website is currently running on Wordpress 2.7.
The newer version, 2.8 has just been released and I want to switch…and keep all of my settings, files, plugins, themes, ect.
Is there anyway to do this?
You may want to check if your current themes and plugins are compatible with the latest version. You can check the following link http://plugincheck.bravenewcode.com/. Pick up the upgrade options from http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress. You are ready to go.
