Here are some cool and handy tips, which will help you regain or boost up the speed of your favorite web browser Firefox.
- Type
about:configin the address bar. - Proceed by clicking “I’ll be careful, I promise”.
- Locate the following Preferences ( by typing them in the “Filter” bar) and set their values as suggested:
browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs, double-click it to set its value to true.network.http.pipelining, double-click it to set its value to true.network.dns.disableIPv6, double click it to set its value to true.network.http.pipelining.maxrequests, double -click it. You will be prompted with “Enter Integer value”, set the value to 8, click “OK”.
- To increase the specified reflow page interval, right click anywhere on the web-page (
about:config) and select New > Boolean, a pop-up window will appear. Typecontent.notify.ontimerand then click “OK” and set its value to “True”.Click “OK”. - Another way to increase the speed of Firefox is by using Firefox addons. Some are — Tweak Network, Fasterfox. This will help boosting up the speed of your favorite web browser.
- Set your homepage to blank, this helps by bringing up the browser faster without having to send a request for the homepage.
- Disable session restore. Session restore is an excellent feature of Firefox but in the long run it’s a bad and addictive habit. Disabling session restore means Firefox doesn’t have to load 101 tabs you saved in the last session.
- Use minimal extensions. Every extension that you install has to register with the Firefox window and delays Firefox start up. Periodically go through the list of addons and disable the ones that you don’t require or rarely use.
- Use optimized Firefox builds. These builds are optimized for particular hardware & software combination and are available for as Firefox 32 bit & 64 bit distributions.
Lastly, restart Firefox to experience the enhanced speed of your web browser.

A tip from me to make things even blazinger faster.
Always happy to speed up my Firefox, therefore I came here at some stage in the first place – and I am still very happy with Shivanand’s fabulous special “balzingly fast” builds (albeit, I am not going to upgrade to V. 4.! ).
Go to your “Profiles” folder and open the .jar archives (they are simply zip-files with a different extension) of every extension you have installed (per double click they should open with your archive program, such as WinZip, PowerArchiver or 7zip, etc., else associate them). They are usually in the sub-folder “Chrome”. There, most should have a section “locale”, open that, and simply delete all the languages you don’t use – some, especially the popular ones, have dozens. I recommend to do a quick defrag of the drive afterwards for maximum effect. My savings in terms of start-up time are about 50%. Also the SpeedyFox Utility helps keeping things at pace, especially with older installations after first time use. Cheers to all! OA.
PS: I would not disable “session restore” – it saved my arse about a couple of times.
PS2: I trust you, Shivanand, but nevertheless would be happy if you could explain your more “esoteric” improvements such as settings such as “pipelining” and “ontimer” a bit to give me at least the impression that I have got a clue what I am doing.
Cheers, OA.
