bbPress is a pleasant surprise. But then seeing it come from the creators of Wordpress your expectations only grow. Our previous forums ran on PHPBB3. There were several issues with it.
- Complicated plugin/mod installation
- No new post notification
- Administrator being blocked from posting because of a blacklisted IP.
- No easy theme design.
- No easy registration.
bbPress solves some fundamental issues for us.
- The openID plugin will let you use your openID to register and login. (This is planned but registration currently is not working through openID).
- OpenID integrated registration and login will encourage users to share their concerns in the forums than asking them here in the comments as.
- A new theme that integrates with the blog here, everything from the old forums imported and setup right. It took me just a day to set it up. I expect some issues but it was easy setting it up, importing, designing and launching – all within a day.
- Plugins extend the functionality – I have installed a new post notification plugin so that I get notified as soon as you post.
- RSS for the Forums and Topics.
All the topics, users, their passwords have been converted and shall work the same. In case you had any special characters in your login ID, it has been eliminated. If you had a space/blank character in your login ID it has been replaced with a “-” (without quotes).
