Do you wish some of Google Chrome’s features should compulsorily exist in Firefox? Checkout Omnibar — a Firefox add-on.

What is the Google Chrome’s feature in this add on? This Firefox add on just combines search bar with the address bar (or url bar in Firefox specific terminology) , thereby increasing the area in your address bar and streamlining the UI.

Key Features:

  1. You can search for more than one search engine at the same time.
  2. Shows ‘search’ suggestion in address bar while you are typing, which is more helpful in search.

How to use this add-on:

  1. First add keyword to all your search engines. (How to add keyword for search engines).
  2. When you want to find the search result for a word, just type the keyword followed by the words you required the search result in the address bar. For Example: If you need to find the url of your favorite shopping site just type ‘g’ then leave a space and then type the words you want to search(Assuming you have assigned ‘g’ for Google search).
  3. If you want to search more than one search engine at the same time. Just type ‘@’ followed by the first search engine keyword then ‘,’ and then second keyword which is followed by the words to search. For example if I want to know about ‘photo blogs’, I will just type ‘@g,y photo blogs’, since I have assigned ‘g’ for Google and ‘y’ for Yahoo.
  4. Firefox has a default unique feature, which when you enter the name of the popular site in the address bar, it opens the site directly. This is possible because Firefox access Google’s ‘I am feeling Lucky’ feature. Though I am the fan of this feature, I found some people really hate this. If you are one of them, then this add-on helps you more. Just make sure ‘Enable search for queries without search keyword or operator’ is checked. If you are like me, then just make sure to uncheck the above said option what is your opinion?

You can install omnibar Firefox add-on from the Mozilla add-on site.
