I’m a Full-time Problogger now: I took the plunge - quit my job

in General

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

- Mark Twain

Yay! I feel the freedom.. I feel the vastness of the sky. I’m very very very scared. But I’ve done something that I really wanted to do; and that was to create. I want to create software that is free and I want to contribute to the world in a meaningful way. I want to share what I find useful and hope you find it useful too. I love to do it and I’ll enjoy doing it full-time now.

  • Darren Rowse of Problogger.Net: Darren is the mentor of budding bloggers. He found b5media and created a niche. I cannot praise him in words. Sometimes I did get frustrated and fired back at him from my own posts (naive as I was) - but he is beyond all this.
  • Leo Babauta of ZenHabits.Net: Leo has been an inspiration all through. From his blog design to the basics of life and how he shares everything on his blog for free - yes he has an uncopyright on his blog. He is a person who has explored and realised the happiness of a free world.
  • Steven Snell of Vandelay Design and Traffikd: Steven is a web designer who was an inspiration. His blog inspired the designer and developer and the blogger in me. I saw him start and go to a thousand subscribers in a few months. Absolutely rich content and a standing example of how to start a blog. I’m feel inspired to compete the subscriber number on Traffikd :)
  • Sudhanshu Chaturvedi of AdvancedPhotography.Net: Sean (as we address him) joined me in college. He is in love with photography as I’m in with technology. He is the power behind AdvancedPhotography.Net and keeps it going.
  • Tom aka Sarcastic Horse of Binary Turf Forums: I had to struggle for time and energy to keep the forums running. Tom joined me and he helps me out with it. He is into gaming and plans to start a blog soon. I realise the power of giving for free - I get good friends that help me out.

What do I do now?

A lot of things have been waiting for my attention. They will be attended to soon as I shift to my hometown in a week. I continue to invest my time in several informative blogs:

  1. Binary Turf

Binary Turf is a blog that brings you the latest tips and tricks and news from the world of technology. We are 800 subscribers (and another 200 subscribers by email) strong. “We” means all of us. Binary Turf is emerging as a community and it deserves my contribution full-time.

  2. AdvancedPhotography.Net

(Yes I prefer the .Net part when pronouncing the name - distinguishes it from a .Com) AdvancedPhotography.net is emerging as a one stop blog bringing you all you need to know about using your camera and becoming a pro. If you have a flair for photography, this is the blog to subscribe to.

  3. The Essence Of Indian Music

I have a deep connection with the Indian Classical Music. I’m not trained but I can distinguish the finesse of the art and this is the place where I bring my views about the collectors edition - strictly Original Authentic Melody. I post once a month - but strictly classical and to the taste of the purists.

  4. Maverick Saint

The spiritual side of my personality where I try and explore how to find solace. As I start working from home I want to explore spirituality along everyone who joins me there. Initially you’d see here how I transitioned into being a full-time blogger from a techy and earlier just another college graduate, and finally the learnings of a lifetime. To be launched on Monday Movember 24, 2008.

If you have a dream… go for it!
If you want to share anything… share it!
if you want to help the world in “a meaningful way”, everyone will support you.

Congratulations for your freedom.
I hope that everyone will be free. And, like Richard Stallman says: “free as freedom, not free as is beer”

Sudh, Jorge: Thanks a lot for the encouragement.

Shivanand,
Congratulations! I know exactly what you’re feeling. It’s fun, exciting, and scary at the same time. I think the challenge is healthy though. Unlike a job where you can pour in all your effort and basically get ignored by your employer, now things are truly in your own hands. Good luck, and thanks for the recognition.
