“A picture is worth 1000 words,” they say. And Gmail can do it for you. Like every other web mail Gmail also offers you the option to attach files and those images too. But then they all appear at the end of your email message. This post is about inserting an image inline into your Gmail.
- Log into Gmail.
- Click “Settings” on the top right corner it.
- Click the “Labs” tab.
- Enable the “Inserting Images” feature.
- Save the settings. (You are now returned to your Gmail page.)
- Click “Compose Mail”. ( If your ‘Compose Mail’ is set in the ‘Plain Text’ mode, you will need to select “Rich formatting” using the button highlighted in the tool bar area, right beneath the ’subject’ box.)
- Now enter the email id of the recipient, fill in the subject line and compose your message. Place your cursor wherever you want your image to appear within the message.
- In the ‘Rich formatting’ tool bar you will find a small icon, ‘Insert Image’. Click on it. (You will also find a ‘Web address url’ option. Ignore it. We’ll explore that option in a different post.)

- Use the pop up window to upload/insert an image.
- Click on the image and it would show a a hovering toolbar with the options to resize it to Small- Medium -Large – Original size – Remove. Choose your option. (You can also choose a location to place the image within the message.)

There, now you have your image where you want it – inline. Power to you and power to your emailing. You are now a Gmail “Power User”.

My God, man. You are a genius!
..and you are..!
This is exactly the one of the reason why I stick with Thunderbird 3. Why not just a plain and simple copy&paste of an image in the compose window?
What a complex method needed in Gmail just to insert an image.
Mail client rules!
Thanks anyway for the tip
Yes, life could be much easier. I too would like it; a simple copy and paste. Let’s hope some one could along with that too. Thank you for dropping by.
