Google Drops the ball on Firefox Phishing Protection

Google recently announced discontinuation of it’s less popular (or more precisely – less revenue generating) services. While there are several like Google Notebook etc which will get the axe, one such service is the phishing protection service used by Firefox 2.0 users. With the discontinuation of Google’s phishing protection service, Firefox 2.0 users have few options. A good decision is to upgrade to Firefox 3.0. The sooner the better. Mozilla warned the users of this change yesterday. Time to backup and upgrade safely.

I don’t know how old this blog post is, so my comment may now be irrelevant, but there are 2 alternatives that I know of for phishing protection.
1) Netcraft toolbar. Free, and you can even report new phishing sites that you may find.
2) Firetrust’s Sitehound toolbar. I believe this is also free.
A simple Google search will get you to their sites and downloads.
