Colorful Tabs was crucial to my organization skills. I would have all my tabs synchronized to my school organization colors and I officially love this add-on.

Great plugin, (I’ve been using it for awhile now) but download links for the latest version doesn’t seem to be working.

5 Shivanand Sharma October 30, 2009 at 8:45 pm

It just been uploaded so will take another hour or half to be replicated to all the mirrors.

cannot install colorfultabs!! v3.9.6 isn’t on mozillas server!!

7 David Brodeur October 31, 2009 at 3:47 am

The link for updating the newest version of colorfultabs does not work

8 pavid October 31, 2009 at 4:48 am

The new version 3.9.6 will not install. I receive a download error of 228 whether trying to install by using the Extensions Manager update function or by using the install/update link provided above. In fact the link above will not allow one to download the file either.

9 David A. Marks October 31, 2009 at 5:31 am

Just to let you know, this version, 3.9.6 will not install into my firefox. It doesn’t work either from here or the official addons site. WinZip says this is not a valid file. Version 3.9.4 is installed and working fine.

My firefox:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5pre) Gecko/20091030 Shiretoko/3.5.5pre (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) – Build ID: 20091030044654

While attempting to install or download this addon I receive the following error:

Firefox could not install the file at
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/1368/colorfultabs-3.9.7-fx.xpi
because: Download error
-228

File download size is approximately 321 bytes.

It’s unfortunate that we are seeing this issue over the weekend. Something is wrong on the server side and most of the Mozilla team is away on the weekend.

A temporary fix is to download and install the new version manually from here.

A bug has been created and is being tracked at Addon is repeatedly being deleted from the servers.

Additionally a discussion is in progress in the forums New version fails to downloadwhere you can join in and introduce your suggestions/feedback on the issue.

I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and assure you that I’m doing everything on my part to get this issue resolved and things up and running.

Download is working again. Appreciate your guys efforts.

Hi.
This works great, but there is one thing I would like.
I’m using “Generate colors by hostname” and now I have 2 sites from the same domain which I would like to differentiate. But both comes with the same color on the tab.
I would like test.domain.com have the tab colored blue and prod.domain.com colored red.
Please add this to the wish list :-)

Thank you.

15 Shivanand Sharma November 9, 2009 at 8:32 pm

EISK: Please go to the ColorfulTabs Options and under the “Presets” tab, enable custom coloring for the requisite domains.

When will this be compatible with 3.6 ? I am using 3.6b4pre and would love to see it work as this feature is one I am used to getting in firefox. Thanks.

17 EISK November 24, 2009 at 1:33 pm

After a little trying, I found that I had to put the domains i a certain order.
I also wasn’t specific enough in my question.
I have one site ‘test.service.domain.com’ and another ’service.domain.com’.
With ‘ ‘test.service.domain.com’ first and then ’service.domain.com’, both got the same color. But by changing the order, they got the colors I wanted.
Now it works like a dream :-) Thanks for a nice add-on!

You write that the new version is compatible with Sea Monkey 2.0 but its not available anywhere. So how I go about it.

19 Shivanand Sharma December 4, 2009 at 11:19 am

It’s the same as the one for Firefox. You could’ve installed from this page too. But you can also install from AMO https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/1368.

20 JAGDISH MALIK December 12, 2009 at 1:23 pm

Sorry to point out that after every log off, colourful tabs downloaded disappear and donot install again despite best efforts. In this context, help has been sought from Shri Sharma Ji who introduced the same. Hope, the problem will be sorted out and surfing the net w’d be a great experience.

Thanks to Shri Shivanand Sharma Ji once again.

Used this extension for years and it’s brilliant.

Now that Thunderbird 3 has tabs, is there any chance of porting it over to that?

22 admin January 19, 2010 at 12:40 pm

The tabs in Thunderbird are inherited from the structure of Firefox 2 series. Any chance someone can hack one of the ColorfulTabs version made for Firefox 2 and see if this can be done? There is a thread in the forums in case you wish to pursue this further.

23 K January 25, 2010 at 5:02 am

Will Thunderbird 3.1 be based on Firefox 3 series or still Firefox 2 ones?
Thanks
