Assumptions at their best. ColorfulTabs is all about colors and not about leaving the tabs to their default gray. For those who explicitly want to disable the default ColorfulTabs coloring there's an option too. Please read the documentation correctly, set your expectations and may be then report issues. The forum is only for issues wherein ColorfulTabs is broken (as in not working as meant to be) or feature requests.

I understand your point and the answer to that is using the fourth option on the ColorfulTabs>General.

Well if that's the expected behavior, then the User Interface is badly written.

From user's perspective that's not what one expects:

1) Check button: [x] "Generate colors by domain name".
2) Define domains that get color.

Other domain, not defined should not get clolor. If the othr domains get random color (unique is as bad as random), then this utility is useless.

There is no point to color every tab in rainbow, colors. That makes it impossible to find anything from the window with 50 tabs open.

Consider changing the behavior of the program to only use those defined for domains. Use standard Firefox color on tabs that don't match the host name.

I'd appreciate if you stop blaming this on programming errors until you find out what exactly is causing this issue.

What you are seeing is the expected behaviour. Domains for which color preference are not set get a color which is NOT random but a UNIQUE color generated specific to that domain. Everytime you load that domain you get the same color instead of getting a RANDOM color.

> Firefox displays differently on Windows default theme and the classic.

In that case, this has nothing to with the bug in question. Those only affect the look and feel; the UI -- displayed dialogs, their borders, button visuals or fonts.

The problem is in the logic of the code, which is setting the color for each tab incorrectly. Sounds lot like a typical programming error.

This addon doesn't read windows settings but Firefox does and Firefox displays differently on Windows default theme and the classic. So windows themes do tend to change how Firefox displays on the screen and hence we choose to restore these settings to default for troubleshooting purpose. Please send a screenshot of the ColorfulTabs Options "General" tab and "Presets" tab.

Identical symptoms as with the poster in this thread.

Version 4.3 does not work correctly.

The option "General > (o) Generate Colors by Domain Hostname"; is not obeyed. Despite the setting, all the tabs are displayed in random color. "Presets > [x] Enable Preset Domain Colors" settings have no effect.

    Is there an update?

    en_US Firefox 3.6 Windows: Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
---------------

I'd like also ask clarification why it is asked about to reset Windows setting as this software is not native-windows *.exe, but an Firefox (*.xpi) application. How would Windows "theme settings" could be a problem in the extension? I'm curious what settings Colorful tabs read from windows side that would affect its behavior?

As far as I can tell by looking at the raw code in the *.xpi, none of the *.js files read Windows settings. But please point me to the code line that does it if I missed one.

Further, re-installing bare Firefox just to debug the application is not feasible.

If debugging is needed, provide a debug version of *.xpi and I'm happy to run and install any debugging code which would display alert dialogs to show runtime values and report results back.

Lucky you!
Since ColorfulTabs uses regular expressions to match domains, for your request you can configure it as follows.

Edit the first entry in the Preset Domains List as follows:

Place a "." (dot/period without quotes). This will match all domains by default.

Pick your choice of colors for all default domains.

In the rest of the entries you can have domains that you want to have specific color for.

See Screenshot.

Hi,
I'm using "Generate Colors by domain Host name".
I've defined several preset domain colors, which work fine. Currently, all other domains (domains that are not included in the "preset Domain Colors" list) receive random colors. I want them to receive one specific color, or just stay gray. Is there a way to define on the "Preset domain Colors" something like: "all other domains" with their preferred default color?
