CuteMenus2, Tab Names and Other "Stuff"
-
While chasing a number of more-or-less minor problems with Firefox 3.5 (and now, 3.5.1), I came across an interesting phenomenon. The extension "CuteMenus2" seems to cause the change of the tab name's font at startup/restart to italics. I had disabled all add-ons while chasing a problem, and, while re-enabling each add-on (one-at-a-time), the restart (after enabling "CuteMenus2") presented italic fonts on yet-to-be-activated tabs. As each tab was activated (by switching to same), the tab name's font returned to it's correct state. Toggling of the "Office/XP" option presented no different behavior.
A further concern was noted. When "CuteMenus2" is enabled, start-up/restart time is measurably longer. These times were measured using a GPS clock, with identical extension, theme and tab environments. The differences were pronounced: startup/restart time without "CuteMenus2" ranged from 10 - 24 seconds; with "CuteMenus2" enabled, startup/restart ranged from 24 - 52 seconds.
While not privy to the content of the extension, I doubt that "CuteMenus2" is solely responsible for the delay(s). Rather, the delays most likely cause(s) might reside in non-fatal conflicts with other extensions. To wit, when "CuteMenus2" is the SOLE extension (all others disabled, an otherwise "clean" profile), the startup/restart variance was almost unmeasurable.
I know that in the grand scheme of things, such a small problem (as fonts) pales compared to some of the current major concerns. As to the startup/restart time, I provide these findings solely to you for now. I am timing other extensions (and themes, as some themes are "dogs" in performance!) for the Firefox "try this" on 3.5.x threads.
In closing, I do like your extension, and keep up the great work!
Regards,
Sean
