Offensive language on ColorfulTabs page
-
On http://colorfultabs.binaryturf.com/?v=3.9.7, you say
"For the specially abled » Increases usability and visibility for people with visual challenges."
I hope you meant well, but "specially abled" and "visual challenges" are both offensive terms which are best known as a form of mockery and are never used by people with disabilities. I blogged about this at http://elettaria.livejournal.com/86009.html, including a poll on terminology, and every single person agreed that these terms were unacceptable.
No terminology will please everyone, but I would suggest the following as the least likely to cause offence and also the most accurate. I am aware of a variety of disabilities and medical conditions where ColorfulTabs may be useful, including dyslexia, Meares-Irlen Syndrome, and any condition causing concentration or memory problems.
"For people with disabilities » Increases visibility for people with visual difficulties and serves as a useful organisational tool for people with reading or concentration/memory difficulties."
I have also reviewed ColorfulTabs on my blog about computer accessibility and disability at http://elettaria.livejournal.com/74157.html#cutid3.

I'm not trying to be a lawyer or a preacher here. No definition can differentiate a deed as good or bad. It's only the intention that matters. My intention was to indicate users having certain difficulties, and as you said, it's conveyed right. Offensive? No, and I didn't mean it. Languages, words specifically have different implicit meanings depending on the context of usage and the sense varies largely based on the users' culture. So what you may find as offensive needn't be as offensive as you believe it is. I ensure it meant no offense and I'm sure you didn't take any.
I'm a developer. I spent time on my computer burning my eyes red. I have visual challenges. Focusing on trivial language nuances isn't my job. I won't give further chance to others who have a lot of time to contemplate the possible meanings of these words. I thus took out the entire sentence. Wouldn't make any difference to anyone other than one or two here and there who noticed.
