Firefox Tweak — Autofill URL In Address Bar

September 22, 2010

firefox

Whenever you start typing in the address bar, Firefox’s Smart Location Bar/Awesome Bar feature provides a list of suggestions from previously visited sites. This saves you from remembering the URLs and restricts your keystrokes to minimum. Now you can make your smart location bar smarter by empowering it with the autofill feature. This feature enables the browser to autofill the URL as you start typing in the address bar. This can be done using a few simple steps:

  1. Type “about:config” (without quotes) in address bar and press “Enter”.
  2. Click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
  3. Type “autofill” (without quotes) in Filter field at the top.
  4. Locate the entry “browser.urlbar.autofill”.
  5. Double click the entry to change its value to “True”.
  6. Restart Firefox.

The smarter location bar just got smarter.

It’s great information and post. It made my life so easy. I save 2 additional mouse / key clicks for every known site I visit.

Many Thanks.
