Firefox — How To Always Open Search Results In A New Tab

September 23, 2010

firefox

You are going through a webpage and immediately need to search for something striking in your mind. And as soon as your type in the Firefox search bar and press “Enter”, the results are rendered in the same active tab. If this upsets you, all you need to do is to set your browser to always open the search results in a new tab. Here are five simple steps to set Firefox to do this:

  1. Type about:config in the address bar.
  2. Uncheck “Show this warning message again” and proceed by clicking “I’ll be careful, I promise”.
  3. Type search in the Filter field at the top.
  4. Locate the entry “browser.search.openintab”.
  5. Double-click the entry to set its value to “True”.

Note: You can use “Alt+Enter” instead of “Enter” to open the search in new tab.
