Femme Flora – A pleasant Wordpress theme

femmeflora Femme Flora A pleasant Wordpress themeI have been working on this theme for several weeks now and finally now I feel that it is ready. This is my first Wordpress theme for public release. So hopes are high. Femme Flora was designed visualizing a soft feminine look with a freshness of the flowers; thus Femme Flora. Femme Flora is a two column theme with a left sidebar. The theme is completely widgetized so you can add widgets to it as you like.

One thing special about Femme Flora is the ability to customize the header. By default the theme uses a picture in the header background. However you can change the header extensively including the font colors of the logo. And to top this all, everything can be done with the header flower intact. Thus I’ve tried a shade of pink in the preview here across the header with the flower in the foreground. The possibilities are endless.

Click here to view a demo of the theme and download the theme from the software section. I hope you like it. Any suggestions are welcome.

I am unable to figure out how to customize the header for femme flora on my site. The only option it appears to have is changing the colors, not the image. It loaded the same colors as the “classic” theme originally installed on my wordpress blog. Am I mistaken that I can change the background image and/or the flower logo?

Currently the settings only allow changing the header colors. But if you want to change the background image, you’ll have to upload the new header image of width:775px and height: 161px and name it headerbg.png. Upload it into the femme-flora theme directory.

I have a similar question as Iris. How do I upload the image into the femme-flora theme directory? Where is that located? Sorry if these questions are so basic!

You will have to use an ftp client to upload the image to <yourdomain>/wp-content/themes/femme-flora/images/headerbg.png

I guess it’s time that I build this into the theme itself for easier upload. By the way do you really like Femme Flora? Any comments/feedback? I just built it for fun so I’ll release a new version if you like it.

Okay thanks! I just bought my own domain name and I am getting into blogging so this is all new to me. I like Femme Flora a lot! I just stumbled upon it yesterday and I love the look of it. I especially like the background. I’ve got no complaints. I’m pretty sure all the things I can’t figure out are because of my unfamiliarity :) I like the header image, I just have something else in mind. Which beach is it? A new version would be helpful.

I think you did an amazing job designing this theme. I just activiated it on my blog. When I went to write a new post and publish it, I get these error:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/00/4907300/html/wp-content/themes/femme-flora/functions.php:669) in /home/content/00/4907300/html/wp-includes/classes.php on line 1586

I am only trying to add a new post. I have not changed ANYTHING in the php or theme editor. what am I doing wrong? I am using IE 7 and the latest version of WP – 2.8.4

This same error poped up when I go to the theme editor and use the drop down font choices. When I select save, I get:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/00/4907300/html/wp-content/themes/femme-flora/functions.php:669) in /home/content/00/4907300/html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 865

Thank you for creating with WordPress. | Documentation | Feedback

I’ve released a new version 1.6 to fix this issue. But the Wordpress team hasn’t approved it yet. You can meanwhile download the new version from http://www.binaryturf.com/free-software/femme-flora-a-two-column-widgetized-theme-with-a-customizable-header/ and use it.

The downloaded file worked great. Thank you again.

2 quick questions:

1. What is the color code (#XXXXX) you used for the horizontal menu bar? I keep searching the php for it and haven’t found it. I want to add some google ads and wanted them to match that color.

2. If I wanted to add some ads to the same menu bar, where would i go to do that?
Thanks for all of this extra help :-)

That color is C2619D.
Most themes do not allow to add ad code to the horizontal menubar at the top. Currently you can’t place the ads in the menubar. But maybe in the next release I’ll add this option. For now you can add a text widget to the sidebar and paste the code there.

Hi, Shivanand,

I love your femme flora theme. I’m making a site for a client, and we’d like to take out the word “home” from the header, as it’s redundant. We have a page called “We’re Like Family Home Page” that already shows up in the list.

I can’t find where to remove that. I’ve checked the header.php file, but can’t locate where the list for pages is. Can you help me? I’m using version 1.6.

Thanks so much for your wonderful theme

Hi Shivanad.
Firstly, my congratulations for your theme. If is very beautiful and well designed.
I noticed in particular the picture of the flower in the header of the theme and I have to say that found it perfect for a feminine-looking site.
In these weeks I have been designing a site for a girl I know and I thought that adopting a solution like yours (that is, putting a flower in the header) could be the best idea to give to the site the graceful look that I’m trying to achieve.
It would be perfect to me to use in the theme I’m developing the image of the flower contained in your theme, so I’m asking you if this is possible for free and under what conditions (is the image available with some Commons Creative License?).
Thanks in advance for your answer (and also for your works…I looked at your blog and i noticed you are involved in a lot of very interesting activities).
Best regards.
Filippo

Hello,

I love your theme, it is perfect after looking for a suitable theme for a long time. I have one question though. The flower adds a little pizazz. I love the look, but visitors (for my purpose) may also be male. I am trying to change the color of the of the pink bar underneath the header to a more natural color like green or brown. How would I do that if possible? Oh yeah, new at the programming part.

Thanks for your hard work!

LiAnn: When you login as administrator, you can visit the “Header Options” under the themes section. There you can select/change the colors of the header. This will only change the colors of the header background which is a pinkish tone. It will not change the color of the flower. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your quick response! Maybe I did not explain it properly. What I am trying to change is the bar underneath beach picture. The one menu bar. I would like to make that a more natural color. One that blends well with the beach and flower.

Thanks again,
LuAnn

Oh, more specifically, it would be called the horizontal menu bar.

23 Shivanand Sharma November 3, 2009 at 12:55 am

Sorry I misread your query earlier.

The menu background is made of an image 1px in width and 39px in height. See http://demo.binaryturf.com/wp-content/themes/femme-flora/images/menubg.png

You will need to create a new image by the name “menubg.png” with the color of your choice. The tricky part is the drop shadow underneath the horizontal menu which is the bottom 5 pixels of the image. So you must only color 34 pixels from the top.

If that’s too complicated, just send me the color of your choice and I shall create an image for you but you will need to know how to upload it to your server. In the future, may be I’ll add this as an option so that you can change it from the backend. Hope that answers your queries.

Shivanand,
I created a file in photoshop and named it menubg.png. I uploaded it onto the site and it covered the menu bar white. The menu did not show through. Thank goodness I only renamed the file and put the original back. The color I chose was similar to the pattern on the sides of the theme. Something that blends with the beach and flower well. I am not picky…if you have time, I can upload it into the control panel.

Thanks so much for all your help!

The menu and the background both being white, could not differentiate the text from the background. I’ve sent you three custom images with the edited style.css. Hope it helps.

Shivanand,

You saved me so much time! I have changed the pink bar, which I love, but needed a little bit more masculine look. I cannot thank you enough. Anyone who questions, this is a true professional at his work.

The best to you!

I’m having an issue with the blog title. It always appears over the custom header. I have tried adding display:none but it doesn’t seem to work.
