ColorfulTabs ready for Firefox 3

I released version ColorfulTabs 3.1 yesterday. If you are on RC1 you will be offered an update. Hopefully this will be a build that will work on Linux and Windows. We can then take it on from here. Check it out.

Bug 411757 was filed since we didn’t have a version compatible with Firefox 3 beta builds. Hopefully I will now be able to resolve it after hearing back from you. What do you say?

After updating to 3.1, then enabling, the ColorfulTabs installation page was displayed on restart, but it had no text showing, just two horizontal lines. The tab titles stated ColorfulTabs Installed

The last version I’ve got (06 jun) is now working with default them in firefox 3.0 RC1 on Ubuntu Hardy Heron with custom gnome theme. Although they are not quite exactly perfect, it’s working! If you want I can provide some screenshots so you can see what’s wrong with them…

A couple of minor bugs/issues:

- Unlike FF2, colorful tabs in FF3 seems to just have flat colours. Is this by design or a bug?

- Also, when you hover over the close tab button you see the background around the area of the close button as if colorful tabs was off.

I’m running Firefox/2.0.0.14 and Colorful Tabs 3.1 isn’t working. I’m getting an alert that says it’s not compatible with this version of Firefox.

@magnoliasouth:
> I’m getting an alert that says it’s not compatible with this version of Firefox
that’s because it isn’t…
Use the Firefox 2.x version from here: http://binaryturf.com/software/colorfultabs-for-firefox/

or here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/1368

choose the latest version compatible with FF2.0

Is there a way to turn off the debug logging?

I’m seeing lots of ColorfulTabs messages all over my Console log (OS X). Maybe CT isn’t the culprit and there’s a Firefox setting to tweak, but I’m not seeing much in the way of other messages, just the CT ones by the hundreds.

set browser.dom.window.dump.enabled to false
That should fix it. I’ll go through the code and comment out all these leftovers from previous debug sessions.

I just installed the release version of Firefox 3, followed by updating to the latest ColorfulTabs. Unfortunately, my tabs are not showing up in color. I used the automatic Firefox update, and I downloaded directly from this site. No change.

Just installed the latest version on FF3 OSX.
It doesn’t look very good. The tabs on FF3 OSX hang from the address bar/menu bar and the color backgrounds don’t draw correctly behind the tab.
The windows version is working correctly as the tab sits on top of the main browser window.

I hope I am posting in the correct place. I installed Firefox 3 and Colorful taqbs 3.1 but the close X does not appear on each tab. How do I get the X to appear? Thanks.

I updated to FF3 (on windows XP) and added colorful tabs 3.1. It does not seem to work. I diables all of the other new addons I tried and it still does not color any tabs.

21 Dan Butcher June 18, 2008 at 5:17 pm

I’ve installed the latest version but it does not seem to be working for FF3 on OS X. The front tab is grey with color behind it.

22 Chas Warren June 19, 2008 at 1:24 am

I am having exactly the same problem as Dan Butcher, also on OS X.

23 Twinkletoes June 19, 2008 at 11:27 am

Same problem as Bill…no colour. XP Home.

I miss ‘em badly!!!

24 Dave M June 19, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Colorful Tabs 3.1 doesn’t work for me with FireFox 3 and XP. Version 2.0.10 does work, though.

25 Donna Goldman June 21, 2008 at 4:57 pm

I upgraded to FF3 and installed colorful tabs. I love it and have no problem with the program.

Dave M:
How does one install ColorfulTabs V 2.0.10 with Firefox 3.0 ??? I get stuck with a “not compatible” warning…

27 Merle B. June 22, 2008 at 6:36 pm

I have installed and uninstalled a number of times and seems not to work on XP home with Firefox 3. Appears to be the same problem mentioned by others. Old version worked fine on Firefox 2.x. What can I do to fix this? I really miss having the colors.

28 Linda Way June 24, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Just moved up to FF3 and Colorful Tabs 3 on Win XP. Can’t get any color on the tabs. It’s driving me batty, because Colorful Tabs was my favorite add-on for FF2. Eagerly awaiting some good news…

29 Dave M June 25, 2008 at 2:25 pm

To Twinkletoes:

Install the “Nightly Tester Tools” add-on and then use that to install the older version of colorful tabs.

30 Twinkletoes June 25, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Dave M: it worked! You little genius!! Many thanks!!!

For the benefit of other happy amateurs, I first uninstalled CT V 3.1, then I installed Nightly Tester Tools, and then I started to install CT V 2.0.10. This time around I was asked by NTT if I wanted to do a Force Install, which I did.

And Hey Presto! COLORFUL TABS RIDES AGAIN! Marvellous.

hello

I love this extension and have used it for a very long time :)

I also use linux, and have the problem where the the tabs appear flat.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the flatness appears in versions after 1.9. (I realised just then that I still had version 1.4 on my firefox 2 installation, which explains why I could only get the tabs looking nice with a copy of that profile)

So I tried installing the 1.4 version on my firefox 3 install, it makes the tabs look nice but the tabs aren’t usable. version 1.5 is the same. However version 1.6 works and makes the tabs look fairly close to what I’m used to (small difference in the tab borders) (screenshot : http://delfick.test.googlepages.com/niceTabs.png), 1.7 and 1.8 are windows only, and if I use 1.9 then the tabs are flat (screenshot : http://delfick.test.googlepages.com/flatTabs.png)

just to let you know :)

Colorful tabs 3.1 is not working in firefox 3. Anybody know why? Thanks

37 Alvin June 29, 2008 at 12:02 pm

Worked on FF3 (XP) but for Flock 2 (also based on FF3), the colour appears behind the tab.

Any idea?

38 ATech July 1, 2008 at 8:42 pm

I seemed to have the same problems with lots of people. Since upgrading to Firefox 3 with the newest Colortab it doesn’t work correctly. All the tabs now have the same color. I tried go to the options to change the opacity,..etc… but it still doesn’t work. Running XP SP3 and Vista SP1. Hope this bug get fix with the next release.

39 Rita July 10, 2008 at 8:10 am

I have Firefox version 3 and also downloaded colortabs, however no color… I hope this can be fixed soon because I love this add-on.

40 Jen July 14, 2008 at 7:07 am

could not get colorful tabs 3.2 to work either with Firefox 3.0. So what else is new, i couldn’t get my cool themes to work either with Firefox 3. But i had to download the colorful tabs 1.6 version and it works fine, what a disgrace for firefox 3.0. All the cool stuff ppl liked in their old version doesn’t work in their new one, with the exception for a few. So i did download the nightly tester tools and then i was able to install the 1.6 colorful tabs, But not the 2.0
