ColorfulTabs 3.9.1 Released

ColorfulTabs 3.9.1 fixes three things:

  1. It is a compatibility update for Firefox 3.1 beta3 users.
  2. Fixes opening of support links from the Options window opened through the extension manager
  3. Disabled default background image.
  4. Fixes coloring of tabs on first install.

The last of these issues was quite interesting. When ColorfulTabs is installed for the first time and the browser restarted after install, ColorfulTabs tries to restore the color of each of these tabs. But wait, what color is it trying to restore? These tabs never had any color. So these tabs ended up looking transparent. Some basic intelligence had to be built in to restore the color only if the tab had a color, else color it afresh – well that’s what it does now.

I hope you enjoy this release while we wait for the next beta of Firefox which is going to be dubbed 3.5  beta4 (instead of 3.1beta4) owing to the major changes and bugfixes the version has gone through. By the way visit the forum in case you are looking for any support.

Hey – I love this add on, even though it’s very basic! Just wanted to say thanks. Also I have a question… am I able to make a preset color set myself? IE, a custom set? How can I do this? I couldn’t find it in any of the menus, or maybe I just couldn’t figure it out. I want to pick my own colors without have to right-click the tab and click “Tab Color”.

Thanks!

I really like this add-on and use it all the time.
I do have one suggestion though.Could you add a close tab button to the tab itself.
It would be much more convenient.

Thank you.

Great extenstion. Can I ask for one feature?
Some sort of “Promote to new Window”.
Some Notepad-program I’m running has this feature, and it is really useful when I suddenly face having to compare data on different pages in same Tab-session I can right click on one tab and promote to new window.

Very useful!
(thanx anyway!)

I have downloaded this many, many times as I will not sit at a computer without it — Color tabs is wonderful. I have tried to put it on my new laptop but it isn’t working. I have used it on all of the computers at school and always put it on every computer before I do anything else – now I have a new laptop and have tried to install it but for some reason – it isn’t working… How can I get my colored tabs back????

Thanks!

Michael: Head on to the forums and post the problem in a thread. Try creating a new profile and install ColorfulTabs in it – hope it works.

If possible would love to have the active tab have like a 2 point weight red border around the edges of the active tag. Sometimes it is hard to realize which is the active tab without tweaking the settings.

i’m not exactly sure if it comes from my “Classic Compact Theme” or from “Tree Style Tabs” (or maybe both?), however, since that i have only on the active tab a red close button, all other closebuttons are grey. This is the best way to imediatly find the active tab, at least for me.
By the way, it’s great that it is possible to make the text on the inactive not fading anymore, i was really waiting for that, just discovered it right now…

I like colorful tabs but if I have a lot of tabs open I still find it hard to know which one of the tabs I am on at that moment (which I now might want to close), so the colour does not help me there. Amongst all the tab titles it is hard to see/find the one that has the X showing. The more tabs you have open the worse this gets. It is easy to close the wrong one then. I miss a better / clearer marking of the actual tab I am on at that moment.

Hello there,
I’ve been using Colorful tabs for quite long time…. though there has been one option removed for some reason that made my life a bit harder now :(
Before (in the earlier versions), it was possible to select the tabs when you click on them and then use the arrows (right / left cursors on the keyboard) to move to the previous / next tab or even press (Home button or End Button) to jump to the first tab or to the last tab (in case you’ve opened many many tabs and you want to go back to the beginning …. keep scrolling to move the tab slider is not very useful sometimes….

I am wondering, was that feature a part of Colorful Tabs plugin or its part of the Firefox itself ? I hope its from the plugin and I hope it can be fixed (if there is a way to fix it or to make it possible to use that feature again, please, please let me know).

And many thanks goes to you people for making our life easier with such wonderful add-ons.

Sam: That wasn’t a feature of ColorfulTabs. Not sure why it is not there in the current Firefox builds.
