The beta 5 of Firefox 3 was released yesterday. As I earlier mentioned in one of my posts, this is not the last release. While it is certainly a step in the direction of getting stable, its still a beta.
The release features
- improvements to the user interface on Vista, Mac, Linux and XP.
- improvements to the location bar, especially the bookmarking and tagging
aspect of it. - Increased stability and security (755 bug fixes)
- Performance improvements.
Safari claims to be the fastest browser on the Mac, but certain benchmarking has shown that this beta of Firefox is now faster than Safari on the Mac.
Beyond beta 5 we should now be expecting a release candidate (also tagged 'RC') soon. Release candidates are open for public testing (as against the betas which carry the usual warning - try at your own risk). While there may be more than one release candidates for Firefox 3, it remains to be seen how long will the fans have to wait to get the final release with all their favorite extensions stabilize for compatibility etc… Currently its expected sometime in June 2008. People miss a lot of their extensions when they upgrade to the latest beta. But you need not worry about it as I mentioned in one of my earlier post on how to Upgrade to Firefox 3 with all your extensions and bookmarks.
