The knowledge of backing up your Firefox profiles comes handy if you try new add-ons frequently or like to try out new Firefox beta versions etc. It also comes in handy if you want to keep a copy of your settings, bookmarks etc. for use on other computers. Here’s how you can backup your Firefox profile.

  1. Have a zip, &izp or any other file archiving utility handy. We’ll use this to archive and store your Firefox profile.
  2. Close Firefox.
  3. Navigate to the Firefox Profile directory:
    • Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla
    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support
    • Linux: ~/.mozilla
  4. Locate the folder named Firefox. Add this folder to a zip archive and move it to a backup location.

You’ve just backed up your Firefox profile.

I try MozBackup. It is a legend piece of software. I constantly switch between laptop and desktop and have found MozBackup to be indispensable for my needs. Quick, simple, and I don’t think I’ve ever had an error with it.
